BANGOR - The MDI girls varsity basketball team came out of the gates cold against the Nokomis Warriors in the first round of the Class B playoffs at the Bangor Auditorium and never got their feet back under them. MDI was eliminated from the tournament by a score of 69-33.

Nokomis' Kelsie Richards sent a message to the Trojans on the first shot of the gam as she tagged a three pointer to start things off. Nokomis got out to a 16-2 advantage with 3:57 left in the first period setting a blistering tempo that the Trojans couldn't match. The period ended with the Warriors on top 20-7.

The second period brought no magic bullets for MDI as Juliane Smith blasted two three-pointers in the waning minutes of the period as she helped to put the score at 28-13 going into halftime.

The Trojans continued to lose ground on Nokomis as the Warriors got out to a score of 47-25 with 1:47 left in the third. MDI's scoring was primarily on a three-pointer and a field goal from Megan Phelps and two from the field by Hannah Shaw. Phelps also accrued a block and a steal to go with two steals by Brailee Black and one from India Ross.

Nokomis kept the ball rolling and stalled out the clock in the closing period to preserve their lead to give them the win.
